Cool off in the Eternal City of historic romance at Rome’s Parco dei Principi Grand Hotel & Spa. This oasis of calm next to the Villa Borghese gardens is a white-glove service stunner with an outdoor summer pool. Designed by architect Giò Ponti, Parco dei Principi was built in 1964 and has recently been subject to a facelift. Taking inspiration from 17th-century style mavens, rooms are sumptuous and swagged with rich wood panelling, classic furnishings and a liberal sprinkling of artwork and antiques. Minimalist it is not.

At the behest of each and every guest, cocktails can be shaken to specific tastes; a chaise longue or chi-chi gazebo can be acquired for extra privacy. The staff await your command! This anything-is-possible attitude is also present at Prince Spa where wellness and soul rejuvenation are the ultimate goals. Serious thought has gone into the materials that create its elegant spaces, which include a boxing ring and natural stone, untreated wooden Finnish sauna with jewelled mosaics.

It’s rock-star OTT opulence at every turn. How about kicking back in the bubbling Jacuzzi with Swarovski-starred ceiling above, followed by an ice-cream cocktail and dinner at the well-renowned restaurant, Pauline Borghese? It’s a done deal. And best of all, you can be in the centre of Rome in a heartbeat – just hop on the complimentary bus to downtown Veneto Street.
